LIZZIE McCORQUODALE

I live by the coast in Northumberland and paint large sea paintings, abstracts, draw with pen and ink and make driftwood pictures.

Visitors can get a breath of fresh air both mentally and physically when I open my studio doors on the 3rd, 4th and 5th September 2010.

Come and view my seascapes right next to the inspiration for the paintings, at my studio in Cheswick, near Berwick-upon- Tweed where I create them.

Visitors will be able to enjoy the stunning scenery and also the creativity of my studio, as part of the Crossing Borders Art Trail.

I will specifically feature the large canvasses I prefer with "maximum splash effect" together with a series of smaller studies inspired by trips to New Zealand and Colonsay.

"Seeing the sea everyday, it became omnipresent in my life. I now recognise it grabbed me rather than the other way around."

"I don't think I will ever tire of painting the sea with its different moods, colours and light reflected in the waves and sky. I work to create a painting with spirit and feeling. If someone comments that they feel they could get their toes wet in a picture then I am very pleased."

I am originally from the Borders and graduated from Edinburgh College of Art, before moving South to paint murals. My mother Geraldine is also a painter, creating contemporary landscapes, while my father was John Gubbins, who painted watercolours of houses surrounded by their abundant gardens. I moved to Cheswick in 2004 and became best known for my atmospheric seascapes, inspired by daily walks along the beach with my dogs.

Through the Crossing Borders Art Trail, I am one of many artists throughout the Borders and North Northumberland giving people the opportunity to enjoy the creativity of art, meeting the artist and buying original work directly from them.

My studio at East House, Cheswick, TD15 2RW, will be open from 10am to 5pm from September 3-5th inclusive.
